‘Fantastic’ player who Tottenham sold in 2019 is now keen on returning to N17 this summer

A player who Tottenham Hotspur sold back in 2019 is now said to be keen to make his return to north London this summer.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side are still battling away for a fifth-placed finish this season and have a great opportunity later today to put three points on the board.

However, eyes will already be on this summer’s transfer window with Tottenham still requiring a number of upgrades in key areas.

It has been a positive season on the whole and there can be a lot taken from Postecoglou’s first term that should provide fans with a lot of optimism for the years to come.

But the Australian has now had a chance to assess his squad throughout a season, changes will come.

And it seems there is one player who Daniel Levy sold back in 2019 who would be keen to make a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Having spent five years away from north London, it is now being suggested that a reunion is being eyed by the player who Spurs let go of for nothing.

Player who left on a free is now eyeing Tottenham reunion

If Tottenham are going to compete across all fronts next season, a stronger squad depth is going to be needed.

The manner which Tottenham exited both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup are one of the negatives to come from the Australian’s first season at the helm.

Spurs have not had European football to contend with this season, but they still found themselves eliminated in the early rounds of both domestic cups.

With Europa League football looking likely for next season, there will be a need for this squad at Hotspur Way to be bolstered with quality to allow for rotation next term.

According to Record, the Englishman is now on the market at Sporting CP and he is keen to make a return to London with Spurs.

Tottenham retain a 35% sell-on clause in his contract which means they could potentially land themselves a deal.

During his time in Lisbon, former Tottenham midfielder Pedro Mendes has hailed the winger as a “fantastic player”.

Sporting are already believed to be looking for his replacement ahead of the summer after getting their hands on the Portuguese title.

Interesting Marcus Edwards stats that show he could be a player of use for Tottenham

Having departed Tottenham in 2019, Edwards had enjoyed a positive spell in Portugal with his latest move taking him to Sporting.

This season, Edwards has not been handed as regular game time from the starting XI as he would have liked.

However, he has still been positive on the ball when he has been given the opportunity by Ruben Amorim.

With Edwards wanting to leave Sporting on the back of a season where game time has not been consistent, it has to be questioned whether he could earn those minutes at Tottenham.

He has only been able to provide four goals and four assists this season which is fewer than what Brennan Johnson has returned.

Although it could make for a great story, if Spurs want to seriously improve then there are bigger names than Edwards which they should be targeting this summer.
