'Shocked': Paul Merson can't believe what he's heard about Bukayo Saka

Paul Merson has now revealed his surprise at something he’s heard about Arsenal No.7 Bukayo Saka.

All eyes are on the England international this weekend, as Arsenal fans hope and pray the Hale End graduate can lead them to a first win at Old Trafford since November 2020, and keep the Gunners in the Premier League title race.

Ahead of the crucial Premier League clash, Paul Merson has expressed his shock at what he’s heard about Bukayo Saka

Paul Merson cannot believe Bukayo Saka missed out on EA SPORTS Player of the Season nomination

The Premier League released their eight nominees for the EA SPORTS Player of the Season award on Thursday.

Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard were included among the likes of Alexander Isak, Virgil van Dijk, Ollie Watkins, Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Cole Palmer – although Saka was nowhere to be seen.

That is despite the Arsenal No.7 scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists in 34 Premier League appearances so far this season.

After being told that Saka had not been nominated during Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, Merson said: “Yeah, very much so (surprised). He was unplayable at the start of the season. I know it’s been a little bit harder recently but people double up on him, and that’s what happens when you’re successful, and good at your job.

“I am quite shocked… he should be in (with a shout of) Player of the Year, no doubt about that.”

Arsenal No.7 has been robbed

We really cannot understand why Saka has not been nominated.

The 22-year-old is just one assist away from reaching double figures for both goals and assists in the Premier League this season, something only Watkins, Anthony Gordon and Mohamed Salah can boast.

However, the difference is that Saka’s efforts have kept Arsenal well in the title race, and the Gunners could still win England’s ultimate prize thanks to their talisman’s work.

Hopefully, the Ealing-born forward will be able to add to his tally of goal involvements at Old Trafford on Sunday and silence the doubters, if he is fit to play, that is…
