Wolves and Leeds eye up surprise move to sign 24-year-old Hammer this summer - report

West Ham United face losing one of our players this summer, and Wolves and Leeds are allegedly keen to sign him.

The summer transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham, with Julen Lopetegui facing an enormous task after some really poor squad building from David Moyes.

The 57-year-old Spaniard plans to sign six new players before the start of next season, but he’ll probably need to make more than that.

12 Hammers are being linked with the London Stadium exit door this summer, and whilst they are not all first-team regulars, our squad still could be decimated.

There is one player in particular who has seemed exit bound for quite some time.

And now, potentially two Premier League clubs are chasing his signature.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, Hammers defender Ben Johnson is being eyed up by Wolves and Leeds, with the latter obviously hoping to be in the Premier League next season.

Wolves and Leeds eye move to sign West Ham man Ben Johnson

The 24-year-old Hammers full-back will be out of contract at the London Stadium this summer.

West Ham have made one final contract offer to him, but that is likely to be rejected TEAMtalk claim.

It was recently suggested that Johnson was all set to join Crystal Palace this summer.

However, now Leeds and Wolves have apparently joined the race for the London-born defender.

If the Hammers academy graduate leaves, he won’t be missed. He has been awful for us on the most part over the past two seasons.

Sure, he’s made a few impressive substitute appearances over the past couple of months, but the cold hard truth of the matter is that he’s nowhere near good enough to be playing Premier League football.

His better performances recently have actually come in an auxiliary midfield role, and there obviously isn’t a place for him there in the long-term.

The 24-year-old’s shocking concentration levels and his poor positional awareness means that he’s a Championship player at best in my view.

Ben Johnson could end up at Wolves or Leeds it seems, and those clubs are about the level he should be aiming for.
