'Fantastic': Abdoulaye Doucoure loves what £1.5m Everton teammate did against Sheffield United

Abdoulaye Doucoure loves what one of his Everton teammates did during the Toffees’ 1-0 win over Sheffield United.

The 31-year-old was the matchwinner as Sean Dyche’s side landed a fifth home victory in a row.

It was by no means a classic, but victory feels like a fitting way for the Blues to end their home campaign in front of a sun-kissed Goodison Park crowd.

After Doucoure’s first-half goal, an altercation between Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jack Robinson was arguably the most exciting piece of action to occur; Dyche suggested the Sheffield United defender should have walked as a result.

Calvert-Lewin was also involved in Everton’s opener, producing a clever piece of play to tee his teammate up.

Doucoure, the grateful recipient, was full of praise for the Englishman whilst speaking during post-match press duties.

“Dominic made a fantastic job for the goal,” he said.

“I saw him go through the keeper, and I was just in a good position to score in an empty net. I’m very happy for that goal, and it gives us another win, so I’m very happy for the team.

“This season, I’ve scored twice against [Sheffield United], so I’m very happy. I always love to score. I want to keep going and keep scoring.”

Sean Dyche tactical tweak works against Sheffield United

Dyche unleashing Doucoure in a more advanced role alongside Calvert-Lewin worked well on Saturday.

At times, Everton’s £1.5million striker can find himself slightly isolated, so adding a willing runner near him was always going to help. Fara Williams, speaking on BBC Sport’s commentary, also hailed the move from the 52-year-old.

The job Dyche has done over the past three weeks cannot be overstated. The Blues have looked incredibly solid and have also played some good attacking football in transition.

Keeping hold of the former Burnley boss and adding one or two fresh faces could see a tinge of optimism finally return to Goodison Park.
