Report: After Napoli interest, Crystal Palace have now made a decision on Mateta’s future

As Napoli begins the circle for Crystal Palace top scorer Jean-Philippe Mateta, the Eagles have now made a decision on his future.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has been the player who has benefitted the most from Oliver Glasner‘s arrival at Selhurst Park.

The 26-year-old has gone from a Frenchman whom nearly everyone expected to depart in January or this summer, to one of the star players.

Mateta’s rise has been so sharp, that we doubt he saw it coming. But he’s been a completely different animal under the Austrian boss.

Now though, there’s a chance of losing him to Napoli, so Crystal Palace have reacted.

What Crystal Palace have planned for Jean-Philippe Mateta

As links to Napoli emerged over the past few days in a deal which Palace would want to gain a hefty fee from, it may not be as nailed on as once thought.

This is according to a report from BBC Sport and Alex Howell who has touched on the contract situation for Mateta at Copers Cope.

The striker who cost £9m still has two years remaining on his Palace contract and the club also has the option for another year.

But this isn’t all, as the club has also began talks already over Mateta signing a new contract to remain at Palace, something we imagine everyone at the club is keen to see happen.

The report claims that Mateta is incredibly popular in the dressing room and we know he is with the fanbase, so a new deal would go down well.

Steve Parish should do everything to keep Mateta this summer

As we saw with the £86m asking price for Glasner, Steve Parish isn’t afraid to ask for unrealistic amounts to keep his key figures.

If he’s intent on keeping his best, Mateta has played his way into being among the best.

He’s become a superstar striker under Glasner and it feels less like a purple patch and more like a perfect fit for the system being played.

Of course it helps that he has such wizards around him, but Mateta’s clinical finishing has caught the eye of many and is actually the best in the league.

He shouldn’t be sold, especially not for cheap as the options to replace him aren’t as good as Mateta right now.
