What Didier Deschamps' decision over Michael Olise means for Crystal Palace

With this summer’s European Championships less than a month away, two Crystal Palace players were hopeful of making the French squad.

After such a remarkable campaign for Crystal Palace, there will be several players this summer who are hopeful of representing their nations at this summer’s Euros.

Two of which would be France’s Jean-Philippe Mateta and Michael Olise who’ve both been sublime in the recent form Palace have shown.

Despite their stunning campaign, however, France boss Didier Deschamps has opted against selecting either, with Olise’s admission being a huge surprise.

Olise not being included in the Euros squad could have an impact on Palace and the plans for the 2024-25 season.

How Deschamps’ decision will affect Crystal Palace

Not being included in the Euros squad basically confirms that Thierry Henry will be calling Olise up for the Olympics squad, which is being held in Paris.

If this is the case, Olise could miss preseason as the football tournament at the Olympics begins on July 24th and the Gold Medal final is on the 9th of August.

This means he will also miss the opening game or first couple of games of the season as he will also need a small break after the tournament finishes.

With Oliver Glasner keen to avoid transfer speculation spoiling his preparation for next season, this is another thing which could impact his planning if Olise hasn’t been sold before the tournament.

Olympic participation could also impact the potential Olise transfer

This summer it is widely expected Olise will be picked up by one of Europe’s giants after his impressive performances this campaign.

But these clubs may actually be put off a little that they wouldn’t have Olise available until week two or three of the season.

Along with this, existing concerns from suitors over his fitness and injury-proneness could mean there are fears that he will get injured.

That being said, having to wait until August to sell wouldn’t be ideal at all for Palace as it lessens the time to replace him.

So Deschamps not including Olise isn’t a good thing for anyone, even the French squad as he’s by far their best option on the right.
