'I do believe that': Newcastle could enter race to sign £40m Premier League winger this summer - journalist

Newcastle United need to go big on a winger this summer, and could target an established Premier League name.

With free agents Lloyd Kelly and Tosin Adarabioyo being lined up to boost Newcastle United’s defensive ranks, it is looking like the majority of the Magpies’ summer transfer budget will go towards a new right winger.

That is the position that needs addressing the most, and it will be even more pressing if Miguel Almiron leaves the club, which Geordie Boot Boys has been told is likely.

Newcastle United need a top level name to join Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak in attack, but there currently does not appear to be a standout target.

Newcastle United fans told to ‘keep an eye’ on Pedro Neto

But one player who has been linked with the Magpies is Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto.

He could be on the move this summer, and TBR Football insider Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that he is one to watch for Newcastle United fans.

“The winger situation will be interesting to see where Newcastle go with that,” he said.

“Pedro Neto is one to keep an eye on for Newcastle. I do believe that.

“They [Wolves] might need to sell one player, but it feels like it is Neto’s time to leave. That is the way it is seen. There’s a lot of interest and he’s a top quality player. He can play multiple roles too.”

Neto would be a massive upgrade on Miguel Almiron

While there are concerns over his injury record, Neto would be a signing that a lot of Newcastle United fans would get behind. He would be a big improvement on Miguel Almiron, who looks on course to leave St James’ Park this summer. A £25million exit has been suggested, which would be great business.

And replacing him with Neto would be another step in right direction, with the Wolves speedster potentially available for £40million. He is much younger than Newcastle’s current right-wing options, while he is also more productive in the final third.

Neto clearly has the edge over Almiron, while he is slightly ahead of Murphy too, who has actually racked up a decent number of assists this season.

But it is clear that Newcastle do need to sign a player to play in that position, and Neto certainly looks like an exciting candidate. His speed is devastating, while he has been able to combine it with a calmness in and around the box. And he is still of an age that could result in him getting even better, which will appeal to Eddie Howe.

He certainly is one to keep an eye on as Newcastle United prepare for a busy summer transfer window.
