On Saturday, May 18, a series of explosions rocked Kharkiv. Casualties have already been reported in Telegram messages from Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov and Oleg Syniehubov, the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.

"It is loud in the city. Series of explosions. Be cautious," Terekhov reported.

According to the head of the regional military administration, Kharkiv has been targeted by Russians.

"Information about casualties is being verified by relevant services," added Syniehubov.

Five injured

Later, Terekhov noted that the strikes hit residential areas - several private houses were destroyed.

"Five people sustained shrapnel wounds from the strikes on Kharkiv. Among the injured are two children aged 13 and 16 with minor injuries," added Syniehubov.

Shelling of Kharkiv

Russian forces have been constantly shelling Kharkiv and Ukrainian territories since the beginning of the large-scale invasion in February 2022.

The situation escalated further after May 10, when the occupiers attempted to breach the Ukrainian border and managed to capture several border villages.

On May 17, invaders fired rockets at Kharkiv. There were multiple impacts. Three people died, and 31 others were injured. On May 18, it was reported that another injured person, a 33-year-old man, had died in hospital.
