Cristian Romero was left seriously impressed by ‘unbelievable’ Tottenham player v Sheffield United

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero was left seriously impressed by one of his teammates against Sheffield United.

Ange Postecoglou‘s first Premier League campaign as the Tottenham manager has now come to an end with a fifth-placed finish.

Perhaps it is a case of what could have been this season for Spurs with their recent form costing them a spot in the Champions League.

However, the Lilywhites were able to sign the season off with a bang against the league’s bottom side at Bramall Lane.

Goals from Dejan Kulusevski and a strike from Pedro Porro ensured Spurs ended the campaign with all three points.

But it was another Tottenham player who caught the eye of vice-captain Cristian Romero against the Blades as he hailed his teammate after the game.

Cristian Romero wowed by Tottenham teammate on Sunday

It was a performance which many Tottenham fans would have hoped for after a month of misery which has cost them a spot in the top four.

The defeat against Manchester City last Tuesday saw Postecoglou’s side put in a solid performance but without anything to show from it.

So going into the game on Sunday, Spurs needed a statement win after losing five of their last six games.

One of the players who certainly played his part was James Maddison who has also endured a turbulent run of form since returning from his ankle injury.

However, the England international has started to show signs of getting his form back on track of late and added another assist to his tally on Sunday.

Maddison provided a left-footed cross in the second half to provide Kulusevski with the ball on a plate to net his second of the game.

And it seems the display from Tottenham’s other vice-captain did not go unnoticed by Romero who took to Maddison’s Instagram post to call him a “top player”.

Romero has remained a constant in the Spurs XI this season and the leadership role provided by Postecoglou looks to be the making of him at Tottenham.

James Maddison’s stats show his form is heading in right direction

Although mounting injuries mean Spurs were probably pleased to see the end of the season come, it has come at a bad time for Maddison.

The Spurs midfielder has had his issues since returning in January having only provided four assists since.

But two of those assists have come in Tottenham’s last three games with one in each of the games against Burnley and the Blades.

Here is a summary of his display on Sunday.

  • 88 minutes played
  • 1 assist
  • 96% pass accuracy
  • 5 key passes
  • 1 big chance missed
  • 1X was fouled

Maddison has been hailed as “unbelievable” by Premier League defender Max Aarons earlier this season and he has really begun to show that again of late.

Although the Spurs playmaker could probably do with a rest, he may well spend his summer away with England at the Euros.
