£50m man was Chelsea's unsung hero against Bournemouth, he deserves more praise - opinion

Chelsea beat Bournemouth 2-1 in their final game of the Premier League season.

Moises Caicedo and Raheem Sterling were the men to grab their two goals, with the former scoring arguably the goal of the campaign on the last day.

Caicedo played well overall so is understandably taking a lot of credit for Chelsea‘s win against the Cherries.

But one of his teammates definitely does deserve a bit more praise than what he is currently getting.

Moises Caicedo’s performance against Bournemouth

Firstly, it is only right to acknowledge the stunning goal Caicedo scored and how well he won the ball back in the middle of the park.

The midfielder, who found the back of the net all the way from the half-way line, made six tackles during the encounter, according to WhoScored.

No other player managed more, with Marc Cucurella and Marcos Sensei also recording six.

The same also applies to the number of interceptions that Caicedo was able to make (three). It was quite the midfield display from the Ecuadorian.

Raheem Sterling deserves just as much credit as Moises Caicedo

Sterling was not bad either. In fact, he was probably as impactful as Caicedo.

The 29-year-old, of course, scored what proved to be the winning goal, but he was a constant threat throughout the game until he was taken off in the second half.

Sterling was in the top five players for dribbles, completing three. He also made three key passes, a number only Cole Palmer (four) and Marcus Tavernier (four) managed to better.

The England international, who signed for Chelsea from Manchester City in a £50m deal two years ago, has been quite hit and miss since arriving in west London.

In total, he scored just eight goals in 31 Premier League appearances this season. However, if it were not for Sterling, the Blues would not have beaten Bournemouth. It was definitely one his stronger performances in the 2023/24 campaign and he deserves credit for it.
