Report: Aston Villa in talks to sign player who Eden Hazard said can become 'world class'

Aston Villa are in talks to sign a player who Eden Hazard said can become ‘world class’, according to a recent report.

The Villans were dealt a thumping 5-0 defeat on the final day of the Premier League season, as Crystal Palace ran riot at Selhurst Park.

Though, ultimately Unai Emery’s men achieved their main goal which was to finish in the top four, thus qualifying for the illustrious Champions League.

That said, Emery and his chiefs will be drawing up a list of transfer targets ready for the fast-approaching summer window.

One player is reportedly in talks to join already.

Aston Villa in talks to sign Ross Barkley

Aston Villa are in talks to resign Luton Town midfielder Ross Barkley this summer, according to Alan Nixon.

He adds that the 30-year-old is awaiting an offer from Manchester United before seemingly deciding his next move.

Barkley has rediscovered his best form at Luton despite being in a side that ultimately suffered relegation to the second tier.

The former England international has netted five times whilst laying on six assists, taking his total goal contributions to 11 for the campaign.

Eden Hazard, back in October 2018, admitted that he can be ‘world class’ and whilst that hasn’t materialised, he’s certainly a lot closer to that label than he ever has been.

Ross Barkley’s underlying statistics

Barkley’s underlying numbers make for very impressive reading.

The Luton playmaker sits in the top one per cent for successful take-ons per 90 compared to his positional peers across the big five leagues, as per FBref.

Further, he’s in the top 10 per cent for shot-creating actions, evincing his terrific ability to carve out chances.

Put simply, Villa should try to wrap this deal up quickly, as others may start to circle.
