Dejan Kulusevski shares verdict on Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min

Tottenham Hotspur ace Dejan Kulusevski seems to love the final day of the Premier League season having turned in another fine display.

Tottenham ended the campaign with a comfortable 3-0 win away at Sheffield United.

Kulusevski was on the scoresheet twice, thriving having been played as something of a makeshift striker against the relegated Blades.

Spurs ended the season in style and Kulusevski left fans reminiscing about the end of the 2021-22 season.

Kulusevski turned in a huge performance against Norwich City on the final day of that campaign, booking Tottenham’s spot in the Champions League.

The wide man was at it again on Sunday, this time securing Europa League football for Tottenham heading into next season.

Dejan Kulusevski on Son Heung-min

Kulusevski is really looking to step up as a leader for his country and presumably Tottenham too.

An Ange Postecoglou-inspired speech during the last international break saw Kulusevski really step up into that leadership role for Sweden.

Kulusevski seems to be taking on Postecoglou’s approach and he may look to join the Tottenham leadership group moving forward.

Son Heung-min is the current captain whilst Cristian Romero and James Maddison are vice-captains.

Kululsevski could move into that picture in the coming years and he has now paid tribute to skipper Son.

Speaking to The Mirror, Kulusevski has branded Son ‘very important’ and believes that he is a ‘great example’ to the rest of the squad.

Kulusevski noted that Son’s teammates are always tying to help him, taking on increased responsibility to try and step up for the team.

“He’s very important. He’s the captain and a great example for all us others. We follow him and we try to help him as much as we can.”

“Everybody has got to take responsibility, it cannot only be the captain. We are growing and learning, and we have to show it more every day and just stay there for the team, even in difficult moments. That’s where you have to step up and help the team always,” he added.

Kulusevski’s best role still unclear

Kulusevski is seemingly relishing the chance to take on a bigger role in the Tottenham dressing room but his role on the pitch is a little unclear.

Postecoglou loves speed in attack and certainly on the flanks; it’s no surprise that he added Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson in those wide roles.

Kulusevski doesn’t really fit that mould; he can beat a defender with a drop of the shoulder and has real creativity when drifting in on his left foot, but his lack of pace means his future may not be out wide under Postecoglou.

We have seen Kulusevski play as a number 10 at times and perhaps that is where his future lies, allowing him to get on the ball and create without needing to show speed to get past full backs.

Kulusevski operated as something of a false nine against Sheffield United and two goals suggest that the move paid dividends.

Postecoglou may be tempted to keep trying Kulusevski in different positions over pre-season in an attempt to find a natural spot for him in the Spurs side, but he should certainly play an important role moving forward.
