'He could': Ally McCoist says Celtic back-up player could now make Scotland's Euro 2024 squad

With the domestic season all but over, the Celtic fans have the Scottish Cup final to look forward to and then a break from the crazy world of domestic football.

This season has been a rollercoaster and not one for those with a nervous disposition but with the league title wrapped up, the Celtic fans can look forward to a summer of busy activity in the transfer window.

But as well as that, the Euros in Germany is also on the calendar and with Callum McGregor a shoo-in to make the Scotland squad, interest in the summer tournament holds some weight for the Celtic fans.

Although there could be other Celtic players that are set to make Steve Clarke’s squad according to Ally McCoist.

Anthony Ralston ‘could’ be heading to Germany

The former Rangers striker was asked who he thought could make the plane to Germany as Clarke has some holes to fill in his team due to injury.

With Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson both ruled out with injury, McCoist reckons Celtic fullback, Anthony Ralston, could be set for a call-up

McCoist said [talkSPORT], “Right back position, obviously, you know, we miss Patterson. What he might do is he can play Tierney over that side.

“He’s done that before. He could bring in Ralston although he’s not really played enough this season.”

‘Excellent’ Forrest ‘will’ get Scotland call-up

As well as Ralston, McCoist reckons another Celtic hero could be set to win a place in the Euros squad.

When asked about James Forrest, McCoist said, “I’m not playing him at right back. Absolutely no chance of playing at right-back.

“But I think he probably will [go to the Euros]. His end-of-season form has been excellent and I think he’s probably done enough to get in the squad.”

Firstly, with Ralston, the Celtic defender has proven at club level when Brendan Rodgers has needed him this season, he has not let him down.

Ralston has made 18 appearances for Celtic this season creating two assists, one for the winner against St Mirren at the weekend.

Fotmob has rated Ralston’s limited appearances this season at an average of 7.40. Winning, on average, 62.30% of his tackles, 62.3% ground duels and 65.9% of his aerial battles, Ralston has been excellent for Celtic whenever he has been called upon.

As for James Forrest, nothing can be said now that has never been said before. The legendary Celtic winger was pivotal for Rodgers at this stage of the season as he helped get the title over the line and the Hoops into the Scottish Cup final.

With Steve Clarke set to announce the squad tomorrow, both players won’t have too long to wait to find out if they are in with a chance to add to their Scotland cap tally.
