How Ange Postecoglou reacted after Heung-min Son offers to play in goal for Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has just heard his captain Heung-min Son say he’d be prepared to play in goal.

The Tottenham squad have now landed in Melbourne, Australia and have undergone a light training session on Tuesday.

Sunday’s game against Sheffield United may have marked the end of the Premier League campaign but Spurs have one more game to play before the summer.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side have secured themselves a spot in the Europa League for next season after a hard-fought end to the season.

But now Spurs will face one of the sides who provided a late battle for the European spots in Newcastle United.

And ahead of the game at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Heung-min Son has admitted he’s willing to play in between the sticks for Postecoglou.

What Heung-min Son said about playing in goal for Tottenham

It has been a huge season for the South Korean who was handed the captain’s armband in the summer following Postecoglou’s appointment.

Having lost Harry Kane in the summer to Bayern Munich, the 31-year-old has had to pick up the responsibility in front of goal.

And he certainly provided Spurs with a solid return of 17 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League alone.

With Richarlison enduring a difficult season through injuries, it has meant that Son has been forced to playa cross the front line.

However, he has now been speaking to the media ahead of the game in Melbourne and he has jokingly suggested he could be willing to change his position under Postecoglou.

“I don’t mind. It’s the gaffer’s decision. So I’ll be ready for any position. If he puts me as the keeper, I will be playing as keeper – it doesn’t matter,” Son replied after being asked what his preferred position is.

And it is fair to say his manager found the funny side of it as he sat back and shook his head in the press conference.

Although Spurs had their struggles towards the back end of the campaign, there have been a lot of positives to take from Postecoglou’s first campaign.

Spurs ended the season having scored a whopping 74 goals in the Premier League alone despite losing their top scorer from last season.

And Son has now admitted that he is expecting to see an even better Tottenham next season.

“I think we’ve been talking about this a lot and after the first season we could do so much better. I think we now look forward and see its gone but there is so much room for improvement.

“There’s so much room for improvement so next season is going to be so much better,” he said.
