Report: Big U-turn with key player now expected to stay at West Ham under Lopetegui's orders

Julen Lopetegui could be set to keep heavily linked away player at West Ham United this summer.

Much change is expected at West Ham this summer, with Julen Lopetegui imminently set to replace David Moyes as the club’s new manager.

The Spaniard is apparently already holding meetings with Director of Football Tim Steidten about potential transfer targets.

That’s great news, and it proves that Lopetegui is desperate to get all of his transfer business done as soon as possible this summer.

Quite the difference from the way that Moyes operated isn’t it!

The Scot was known as ‘dithering Dave’ for a reason, and it will be so refreshing to see Lopetegui try to get new signings through the door long before transfer deadline day.

However, this summer won’t be all about the players Lopetegui brings in, but also those who he moves on from the club.

There is one man in particular who is being heavily linked with a London Stadium exit but now he could be set to stay…

Julen Lopetegui to keep West Ham ace

There is plenty of deadwood at the London Stadium right now, and the Spaniard will undoubtedly try to get rid of those who have underperformed.

Even some of our better players are being linked with the exit door.

However, one man who has played a key role for us recently may well be staying at the club after all…

It is claimed by the Evening Standard that Michail Antonio will be part of Lopetegui’s plans, after the Spaniard tried to sign the forward for Wolves last year.

That’s quite the turnaround, after recent reports claimed that Antonio will leave the London Stadium this summer (London World).

He also admitted recently that he could have left West Ham every single summer he has been with the club.

The Jamaica international has been a great servant for the Hammers since he joined us way back in 2015.

And now it seems as though Julen Lopetegui wants Antonio to spend at least one more season with West Ham.

With so many new signings needed this summer, and a big squad overhaul lying in wait for Lopetegui, keeping Antonio for one more season certainly would make sense.
