‘Under the radar’: Journalist is quietly hearing something different about Arsenal’s transfer strategy

Arsenal might not be in for a new striker this summer.

For months we’ve been hearing about the Gunners’ pursuit of a new centre-forward as they look to add the finishing touches to Mikel Arteta’s project.

However, now, there’s been a suggestion that the Gunners won’t be signing a new striker.

Indeed, speaking on The Game Football Podcast, Alyson Rudd has stated that the noises coming out of Arsenal suggest that they don’t actually feel they need a striker.

Arsenal not in for a striker

Rudd shared what she’s been hearing about Arsenal, and it’s very different from the stories that have been doing the rounds in recent months.

“The noises coming out of Arsenal are not that they feel they need a striker. They’ve made it sort of, if you can make it clear by not saying anything but by having words emanating under the radar,” Rudd said.

“Ivan Toney for example, they didn’t like that he was so heavily linked with them, and if you had a space in your team you would take someone like him under consideration.”

Arsenal might not need a striker

Arsenal feel as though they don’t need a striker, and they might be right.

Yes, the Gunners could do with a more clinical attacker leading their line, but their current system leads to tons of goals as it is.

Indeed, Arsenal scored 91 Premier League goals this season, that’s more than any other team not named Manchester City.

Yes, other teams have more effective strikers such as Alexander Isak, Ollie Watkins or Dominic Solanke, but at the end of the day, as long as you’re scoring goals, it doesn’t matter who is finding the back of the net.

Arsenal have an attacking set-up that is working, so why try to meddle with it?

Sometimes the best activity in the transfer market is inactivity.
