Report: Chelsea are now interested in hiring ‘the ultimate leader’ as their new manager

Chelsea’s search for a new manager is underway, and they’re already being linked with a number of different candidates.

Indeed, the Blues have been linked with umpteen managers since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure was announced, and some have been more interesting than others.

The likes of Kieran McKenna have been touted, and now, another exciting young coach has been linked.

Vincent Kompany of interest to Chelsea

According to The Guardian, Chelsea are interested in bringing Vincent Kompany to Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian has, of course, just endured quite a poor season with Burnley that finished in relegation, but, back in the 2022/23 season, Kompany was seen as the next big thing in management.

Indeed, his Burnley side ran away with the Championship that year, losing just three out of 46 games and racking up 101 points in the process.

That success seemingly hasn’t been forgotten, and Kompany is now a contender to get the Chelsea job.

Vincent Kompany to Chelsea could be a masterstroke

Hiring a recently relegated manager isn’t a strategy that looks great on paper, but there is reason to believe that Kompany could be a success at Chelsea.

Say what you will about the Belgian, but when he has a team that is capable of outclassing opposition, he gets results.

His Burnley team were never going to be able to play his brand of football in the Premier League, but this Chelsea squad might be able to.

Not only does Kompany have a fantastic tactical brain, he’s also one of the most respected figures in modern English football due to his playing days at Manchester City, while Tony Cascarino has previously described him as ‘the ultimate leader.’

Kompany would surely jump at the chance to manage Chelsea after being relegated with Burnley, and while this is a left-field option, it could also be a very exciting appointment.
