‘Hasn’t been at the same level’: Micah Richards says £35m Arsenal player got worse this season

Arsenal may not have won any trophies this season, but it was still an incredible campaign from the Gunners.

A tally of 89 points is the second-highest total Arsenal have ever managed in the Premier League, and the Gunners were absolutely brilliant to watch at times this season.

Almost every single one of their players seemed to go up a gear, and, in any other era, they would’ve walked to the league title.

However, according to Micah Richards, speaking on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast, there’s one Arsenal player who wasn’t as good this season.

Micah Richards says Oleksandr Zinchenko hasn’t been as good

Richards spoke about the £35m Arsenal man, claiming that he hasn’t been at the same level as last season.

“Chilwell has been injured, Zinchenko hasn’t been at the same level as last season, Udogie has done well, Shaw has done well. I agree with Alan though, Robertson,” Richards said.

Zinchenko doesn’t look as confident

When Oleksandr Zinchenko joined Arsenal he looked like an absolute revelation.

A left-back who was tucking into midfield and pulling the strings, Zinchenko was running the show for Arsenal on almost a weekly basis.

However, this season, it seems as though Zinchenko has lost his confidence for some reason. He no longer looks as assured on the ball, and there hasn’t really been a game this season where he’s dominated from deep.

Perhaps it’s due to the fact that Premier League teams are becoming more accustomed to playing against inverted full-backs, or perhaps it’s because Granit Xhaka left the club this summer and the dynamic of the team has changed, but, either way, something has happened to change the way Zinchenko is playing, and , sadly, he’s not been as good this season.

Fingers crossed Zinchenko can get back to his best next term.
