‘I’m not having that’: David Seaman stunned after hearing suggestion about Andre Onana at Man United

David Seaman was left unimpressed after hearing a suggestion made about Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana.

It’s been a mixed debut season for Andre Onana at Old Trafford as we’ve seen the best and the worst of the goalkeeper.

The Cameroon international replaced club legend David De Gea last summer after arriving for £47.2 million from Inter Milan.

Following a standout season at Inter, many expected Onana to help Erik ten Hag transform United’s playing style due to his ability with the ball at his feet.

While that has been on display at times, he’s hardly had that transformative effect and hasn’t been helped by the players in front of him.

And while selecting his Goalkeeper of the Season, David Seaman was surprised when Onana’s name was put to him.

Seaman stunned after Onana Team of the Season suggestion

On the latest episode of his podcast, Seaman selected his goalkeeper of the year in the Premier League.

It was put to the Arsenal legend that Onana has made plenty of saves and has been picked frequently for ‘Save of the Week’ by none other than himself.

But Seaman was unconvinced, claiming Onana had dropped too many ‘shockers’ to be considered.

“I cannot give him goalkeeper of the season for some of those saves he attempted to make,” he told Seaman Says. “I’m not having that! He’s made some great saves, don’t get me wrong. But some of the saves he attempted to make were shockers.

The former England shot-stopper then joked: “That could be the surprise of the season, some of the saves he’s made!”

Onana’s stats for Man United this season

While Onana has endured some shaky moments between the sticks, he certainly hasn’t benefitted from a lack of stability at United.

Ten Hag’s backline has been hit with injuries to key players all season and Onana was forced to make 149 saves in 38 Premier League appearances.

The 28-year-old managed to keep nine clean sheets in the league and according to the Premier League’s official website, made just one error leading to a goal.

Of course, the shot-stopper endured a tougher time in Europe though as he made some high-profile errors in the Champions League.

There’s no getting away from the fact that it’s been a difficult debut season for Onana but he has shown glimpses of what he can offer for United.
