Yellow weather warning for rain affecting the East of England

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning as the East of England is expected to receive heavy rainfall tonight (Wednesday, 22 May).

Many places will see 30-40 mm of rain, while a few areas may receive 60-80 mm. There is also a small chance that a few upland areas could see much higher totals, in the region of 100-150 mm.

In some parts of the UK, a month's worth of rain may fall in the next 24 hours.

Heavy rain may cause some flooding and disruption to travel and some communities may be cut off by flooded roads.

Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings, while fast-flowing or deep floodwater is also possible - as are delays or cancellations to train and bus services.
