Son Heung-min spotted reuniting with former teammate after Tottenham Hotspur landed in Australia

Tottenham Hotspur have already been back in action on Wednesday with Newcastle United the opponents for a controversial friendly in Australia.

Ange Postecoglou ended his first Premier League campaign on Sunday, beating Sheffield Untied 3-0 at Bramall Lane.

Tottenham finished fifth in the Premier League and will play in the Europa League next season, making some progress in Postecoglou’s debut season.

Whereas most seasons would end and players would head away to rest up before pre-season commitments, Tottenham have gone down a different route.

Spurs have been taking on Newcastle in Melbourne on Wednesday morning, flying out to Australia straight after the win over Sheffield United.

Making that huge trip Down Under has divided opinion with some believing that Tottenham should have stayed at home rather than go jet-setting ahead of Euro 2024 and Copa America.

Tottenham players may even be a little frustrated with the trip, especially those with international commitments this summer.

The trip will still be a good experience for many players and Son Heung-min is even getting something out of it.

The Tottenham captain has seen it all and even played in Australia last summer as Tottenham took on West Ham United in Perth.

This trip to Australia has been even more important for Son though, as he has reunited with one of his former teammates.

One photo showed Son hugging Melbourne City midfielder Tolgay Arslan following Tottenham’s arrival in Australia.

Son and Arslan go way back having turned out for Hamburg together for two seasons in the early 2010’s.

Son played 30 games alongside Arslan with Hamburg and have formed a strong friendship ever since.

33-year-old Arslan is now thriving in Australia with Melbourne City after spells with Besiktas, Fenerbahce and Udinese.

The midfielder joined Melbourne City after their A-League Grand Final defeat last season but they haven’t been able to match that run.

Arslan and co currently sit sixth in the A-League with the German ace so far unable to help them progress.

Son on Tolgay Arslan friendship

Son was asked about that hug in quotes published by Football London.

Son noted that Arsland is one of his best friends, so the rare opportunity to see him on the other side of the world was a great moment for the Tottenham captain.

“Tolgay Arslan. One of my best friends actually,” said Son.

You would be hard-pressed to find many players who don’t get along with Son, who is one of the most likeable players in the game.

Son and Arslan have kept their friendship going for more than a decade and there will no doubt be plenty of Tottenham players who feel similarly about the South Korean star.
