'Accepted the move': Fabrizio Romano says defender Wolves approved in 2023 is in 'talks' to join PL rivals

A player Wolves reportedly made an approach to sign last year is now set to join West Ham United.

Wolves fans are optimistic heading into the summer, after there was chaos last time around caused by a concerning financial situation.

Wanderers will have more freedom to spend this time, and there have already been a host of players linked with moves to the club.

Back in March, it was claimed that Wolves had previously had interest in defender Fabricio Bruno, who plays for Joao Gomes‘ old team Flamengo over in Brazil.

The claim came shortly after Bruno had impressed on his debut for Brazil against England at Wembley.

It now looks as though Wolves will have to look elsewhere for new centre-backs if there were plans to swoop for Bruno, because Fabrizio Romano has claimed he is now in advanced talks to sign for West Ham United…

Gary O’Neil is likely to be in the market for a centre-back this summer.

In 2023/24, he only had four options; Craig Dawson, Max Kilman, Toti Gomes and Santiago Bueno.

He was using three at a time due to the system, so to only have one in reserve was a bit of a risk.

O’Neil got fairly lucky with the fitness of those four players for most of the season. But Dawson did suffer a groin injury at the end and needed surgery. The veteran ended up missing the last 11 Premier League games as a result, although he was on the bench for two of those.

Wolves do need to think about long-term replacements for Dawson.

There has been some talk about Yerson Mosquera coming back into the squad, and he is a player O’Neil likes.

But there is possibly scope for another – but it looks as though there will be no chance of getting Bruno.

Fabrizio Romano said on X last night: “West Ham are in advanced talks to sign Brazilian centre-back Fabrício Bruno from Flamengo. He’s in the shortlist as @ExWHUEmployee called, talks are now progressing to make it happen.

“Fabrício Bruno already accepted the move, #WHUFC director Tim Steidten is working on it.”

It has been reported by Globo Esporte that West Ham are expected to pay around £12.7 million for the South American.

Bruno will be an interesting watch if he joins West Ham

If Bruno does complete a move to West Ham then it will be interesting to see how he fares in the Premier League.

Of course, it has been heavily suggested that former Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui is set to become the new manager at the London Stadium. This would definitely validate the claims that Wolves did make an approach for the star last year.

Bruno looked impressive when he played for Brazil against England.

He is described as ‘a solid defender, with good speed’. But Bruno has never ventured out of Brazil before, and so, he could well represent a bit of a risk.
