'Next step': Danny Rohl shares where he wants Sheffield Wednesday to finish in the Championship next season

Danny Rohl has spoken out on his ambitions for Sheffield Wednesday next season.

The head coach guided Sheffield Wednesday to survival in his first campaign, with the club finishing three points above the relegation zone.

The Owls spent eight months in the bottom three before clawing their way out with only two games remaining.

It was a huge let-off for Wednesday, who will be feeling a lot more confident about the upcoming season.

Their future could well depend on Danny Rohl, however it does look like the German is now ‘close’ to signing a new contract.

Kicker have reported that the German will put pen to paper on a deal that will see him remain at the club until 2027.

Rohl has also spoken out about his plans for the 2024/25 season and where he hopes his team can finish this time next year.

Danny Rohl’s plans for his first full season at Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking to Kicker, he said: “”Continuity even in my own career is good for me.

“It is helpful for my personal development to continue here.” He wants to take his team to the next level of development in the coming season.

“It would be good if we could stabilise and further develop the whole thing and placing in the top ten of the league would be a good next step.”

Rohl also added that it is important to improve the squad to be in with a chance of reaching the top half of the Championship.

Interest in the German coach won’t end there though

When journalists and fans begin to do their predictions for next season, it would be very surprising if many of them had Sheffield Wednesday to be relegated – or even to be battling relegation.

Rohl has already had a brilliant impact at Hillsborough and hasn’t even had a summer transfer window at the club yet.

Wednesday’s success over the next few months could well ‘rest on’ the 35-year-old staying, with many players more likely to commit their future to the club if he is in charge.

While Wednesday will feel a lot more settled knowing Rohl could stay for another three years, it would be interesting to know the effect that will have on his hefty compensation fee.

If it is reduced, then that could make the German a huge target over the course of the season.

There is no doubt that if Wednesday really impress next term, then even clubs from the Premier League and Bundesliga could begin to look towards Yorkshire.
