'One hundred per cent': Journalist explains why Rohl made the 'right decision' to stay at Sheffield Wednesday

A journalist has explained why Danny Rohl has made the ‘right decision’ to sign a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday.

Sheffield Wednesday look set for good news in the coming days, with reports claiming that Danny Rohl has signed a new four-year deal.

The German joined the Owls in October and guided them to safety, despite spending a majority of the campaign in the bottom three.

There had been concern for months now that Rohl could leave the club though, especially if they had failed to stay up.

Sunderland were one club interested, while Hull City alsothrew their name into the hat after sacking Liam Rosenior at the end of the season.

Wednesday’s survival gave fans plenty of hope that he would stay though, and now Rohl appears to have given away his contract renewalin a recent interview.

The 35-year-old admitted that it was ‘helpful’ for his ‘personal development’ to stay at Hillsborough, while he is aiming to finish in the top half next term.

Rohl could have had the pick of the bunch if he was to leave Sheffield, but has instead opted to stay with the club that brought him to England.

Sheffield Wednesday fans ‘adore’ Danny Rohl

Journalist Dom Howson has now insisted that Rohl has made the ‘right decision’.

Writing on X, he said: “One hundred per cent the right decision from Danny Röhl to extend his #SWFC stay. The fans adore him and there are no guarantees he would have a connection like that elsewhere. There’s still a big job do be done at Hillsborough. Top 10 is a realistic aim for next season.”

He added: “So important for #SWFC to get DR’s future sorted out early in the summer. Last thing they needed is it dragging on and there being any uncertainty. Now the club can crack on with the squad rebuild. Expect many of the players who have been offered new deals to stay on now too.”

Danny Rohl has his sensible head on

Sheffield Wednesday haven’t formed a bond manager like they have with Danny Rohl in a very long time.

Even Darren Moore, who guided them to the dramatic play-off victory last season, came under a lot of criticism from supporters and left only a month later.

Rohl is very early on in his career and hadn’t even managed a club before arriving at Wednesday, so he will understand that he shouldn’t be taking giant strides too soon.

He has settled very well at Hillsborough and will benefit from sticking in the same area, with the same people.

There are plenty of managers who have taken big jumps too soon and have failed, but Rohl has been sensible and stuck with the club that really love him.
