Six candidates standing to be next MP

Five candidates have thrown their hat into the ring to be the next North East Cambridgeshire MP.

Current incumbent Steve Barclay, who has represented the area for the Conservatives since May 2010, has confirmed he will stand again.

David Chalmers will represent the Liberal Democrats, Andrew Crawford will stand for the Green Party, Michael Roberts for the Social Democratic Party, Christopher Thornhill for Reform UK and Javeria Hussain for Labour.

How the voting turned out in 2019

Mr Chalmers is a member of the North Hertfordshire & Stevenage Liberal Democrats and has stood in various local elections as well as the 2017 and 2019 general elections in Torridge, West Devon, where he came third and second respectively.

Mr Crawford has unsuccessfully stood in district and council elections in Fenland since 2017, Mr Roberts and Mr Thornhill have not stood before. Ms Hussain is a councillor in Luton and once stood in the European election.
