Taylor Swift's perfect response to cruel meme saying she had 'died at a party'

If you’ve been a Swiftie for a while, (think back to the Tumbler era) then you’ll be more than familiar with the Taylor Swift meme about ‘Becky’.

The music star’s army of fans has considerably grown over the 18 years since her recording debut. The celebrity has gone from strength to strength – or shall we say, Grammy to Grammy – and some of the new Swifties may get lost in Taylor Swift lore, including the Becky meme. The 34-year-old definitely enjoys seeing fan art, videos, memes and funny takeaways from her songs, and her response to this cruel meme is just pure Tay-Tay all the way through.

If we scale it back 10 years, it’s 2014, and the pop star was seen wearing a yellow t-shirt with the phrase ‘no it’s becky’ on the front, while in New York City.

She was referring to a viral Tumblr post that included a black and white photo of Taylor Swift, claiming she was a girl named ‘Becky’, who died at a party.

The picture, that was an old high school photo of the singer, shows her wearing a tiara, smiling in class.

The meme read: “This is a picture of my friend Becky. She used to be happy. Popular girl until one night she snorted marijuana at a party. She died instantly. Please, don’t do marijuana. It’s the most dangerous drug out there. Please don’t wind up like Becky.”

Someone replies: “Pretty sure that’s Taylor Swift”, but then another person jumps in on the meme and quips: “no it’s becky”.

Swift knew about it thought, and liked it on Tumblr and it had been shared more than 30,000 times. Imagine if it was TikTok now?

The perfect response

Tay-Tay being, well, Taylor, likes to get in on the joke. So when she was seen in September 2014, she wore the shirt, knowing only her true Taylor Swift fans would understand the OG meme.

Swifties have said it’s one of the Cruel Summer hitmaker fanom’s most iconic moments, alongside when one user said they convinced their mom Tay had converted to Islam in a bid to be allowed to buy her next album.

But the 34-year-old does seem to have the ‘perfect response’ for a lot of things.

Thinking back to the iconic moment, Kanye West stormed the stage at the VMAs to interrupt her acceptance speech for Best Music Video. She let the moment happen, and instead, fans believe, let her music Speak Now for itself (see what I did there?)

In her song, Innocent, the lyrics say: “It’s OK, and life is a tough crowd/ 32 and still growing up now/ Who you are is not what you did/ You’re still an innocent”.

And fans think it was a dig at Ye.
