Celtic star Alistair Johnston follows up Chris Sutton dig at Todd Cantwell after beating Rangers

Todd Cantwell isn’t having an enjoyable Saturday after falling to another defeat against Celtic.

The outspoken Rangers midfielder isn’t shy with his social media posts so it seems fitting that on the day that the Bhoys become double trophy winners in Scotland he gets a bit back from some Celtic heroes.

Last week Cantwell shared an image on Instagram with the phrase “shushburger please” after a meaningless goal in a 3-3 draw away to Hearts. [Daily Record]

This was referenced in a post from Chris Sutton on X after Celtic’s 1-0 Scottish Cup Final win, who said: “Well played Celtic and Adam Idah👏👏I may celebrate with a Shushburger this evening…🍀”

Bhoys defender Alistair Johnston has followed that up tonight with a comment on Greg Taylor’s Instagram page, again appearing to reference Cantwell’s social media antics.

Johnston said in response to the Bhoys left-back: “Eating a 🤫burger tonight wee man?”

It’s gone down well with supporters. The comment has garnered thousands of likes already and drawn laughs from his teammates.

Celtic do all of their talking on the pitch but, clearly, having proved themselves this season are more than happy to join in some of the online fun.

The open mockery is amusing to see. It shows that some in the squad are more than aware of what’s being said around Scottish football despite captain Callum McGregor giving social media a complete swerve.

Johnston was a committed performer on the pitch in the final, providing a combative presence to help keep the Ibrox side at bay during a period of the match where they enjoyed significant possession.

With a summer of celebration ahead he’s earned the right to have a pop. He gets this rivalry and hopefully we all get to see that play out again next term.
