Report: What Oliver Glasner is doing to monitor fitness at Crystal Palace this summer, never been done before

Oliver Glasner has now made some interesting decisions as he attempts to stay on top of player fitness at Crystal Palace.

Conditioning seemed to be a real issue at Selhurst Park under Roy Hodgson, with insiders believing that the 76-year-old’s training sessions were lacking intensity, causing a number of muscle injuries.

Now – however – Crystal Palace players appear to be a lot fitter under Oliver Glasner, and the Austrian is hoping to maintain these physical levels by laying down a few ground rules this summer…

A story from London World now claims that the 49-year-old has done something unprecedented at Crystal Palace to stay on top of fitness levels.

It is said that Glasner has sent two fitness coaches out to Dubai – where a number of Crystal Palace players are spending their summer break – to ensure those who want to maintain a strong physical level while on holiday have the option to work out with a specialist.

The man from Salzburg has also informed his Crystal Palace squad that anybody who returns to Copers Cope overweight will have their days off taken away, and will instead need to come in and work to remove the excess weight.

Clearly, Glasner is not messing around as he aims to build on his hugely successful start to life at Crystal Palace.

So refreshing

This update should be music to the ears of Crystal Palace fans everywhere.

The situation under Hodgson was nothing short of ridiculous, as key players suffered injuries on what felt like a weekly basis.

At one stage last season, the man from Croydon even had to bring a piece of paper containing all the names of injured players to a press conference, just so he didn’t forget any – while he was also warned on three separate occasions not to overwork Michael Olise.

Now – however – the situation is a lot more promising.

Glasner evidently takes fitness very seriously, and in truth, the intensity of our performances increased significantly after just a couple of months into the Austrian’s reign, leading to that remarkable eight-game unbeaten run to end the 2023/24 campaign.

If that is what Glasner can do after taking over mid-season, the 2024/25 campaign really could be special after a full pre-season of hard work.
