Report: £51m player Man City want to sign dreams of joining Barcelona, Gvardiol has already spoken to him

It has been reported that a player Manchester City seem to be interested in signing is keen on joining Barcelona.

With Barcelona set to appoint Hansi Flick as their new manager, as per Fabrizio Romano, they will likely be busy in the transfer market.

However, in late April, it was claimed that Pep Guardiola has been handed the power to rejig his Manchester City squad this summer.

Reported Man City target is keen on Barcelona summer transfer

As a result, both clubs could be set to compete to sign a similar batch of players — being two of a select few of European football’s elite.

According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, while Manchester City are interested in signing Dani Olmo, he hopes that he could be reunited with Barcelona.

The La Masia graduate has a €60 million (£51.1 million) release clause in his contract, which expires on July 15.

Additionally, the club’s sporting director, Deco is an advocate of the 26-year-old’s signing, due to his versatility and age, as he believes he is at the stage of his career where he could elevate into a top-class player.

But the report states that Barcelona’s financial struggles puts them at a disadvantage in trying to snap up the Spaniard from RB Leipzig.

Apart from Manchester City and Barcelona, the report claims other clubs like Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also keen on signing Dani Olmo.

Under two weeks ago, it was claimed that Josko Gvardiol had spoken to his former RB Leipzig teammate about joining City.

Manchester City do not need a player like Dani Olmo

In our view, Manchester City should pull out of the race to sign Dani Olmo, giving Barcelona a free run at his signature.

As versatile as Olmo is, there is still a sense that one remains unsure of what his best position is.

The Spanish international can be quite useful across the front line but considering he will cost £51.1 million, City should perhaps target a more specialist forward in the summer.

Unless the Leipzig attacker is satisfied with being a squad player at the Etihad Stadium, the benefit of signing Olmo does not seem to be too evident for City.
