'One of the two': Liverpool have now narrowed down centre-back search to two players - journalist

Liverpool are ramping up their efforts ahead of the summer transfer market.

Arne Slot has been left with a pretty good group of players, but the Reds are still in need of improvements in a couple of areas.

The end of Jurgen Klopp’s last season at Anfield highlighted that one or two members of the Liverpool squad need upgrading upon.

One of the most glaring issues was the form of Ibrahima Konate. As Jamie Carragher pointed out, it’s imperative that Liverpool sign a centre-back this summer.

Thankfully, the early signs are that they will. And according to news out of South America, the Reds have narrowed their choice down to two players.

Liverpool picking between Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapie

As Liverpool scour the market, common consensus is that they are looking for a left-footed centre-back to complement what they already have.

There are a surprisingly big amount of potential options in that case, including two from the German Bundesliga.

And according to South American journalist Christian Martin, this is where Liverpool will be shopping this summer.

The Reds have been linked with both Willian Pacho of Eintracht Frankfurt as well as Bayer Leverkusen’s Piero Hincapie.

And speaking to D Sports, Martin claimed that the Reds are now choosing between the two players.

“Liverpool will keep one of the two,” says the reporter, adding that both Pacho and Hincapie are likely to command a fee of at least £43m.

Who would be best for Liverpool?

These are undoubtedly two interesting options for Liverpool to consider. Both Ecuadorian, it would also add to the Reds’ current South American contingent.

With players on board from Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and Uruguay already, Pacho and Hincapie would likely have little trouble settling in.

In our opinion, there wouldn’t really be much to choose between the two players.

Both are 22-year-old and have good experience in Europe already under their belts. They are senior internationals who look ready to go on to bigger things.

Pacho is the slightly taller of the two players, which would naturally make us lean towards him. But Hincapie is an aggressive defender who would bring plenty to the party, too.

Push comes to shove, we’re probably picking Pacho. But if Liverpool go the other way, we’re sure it’s for good reasoni.
