Report: Liverpool now want to sign a teenager Jose Mourinho said ‘will be a great footballer’

Liverpool are looking to sign a new centre-back this summer.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are already working on signing a new defender heading into the summer, and, by the looks of things, a young option could arrive at Anfield.

Indeed, Leny Yoro is said to be a player the Reds are very keen on, and now, the Merseyside club have been linked with another teenage centre-back.

Liverpool interested in Dean Huijsen

According to TuttoJuve, Liverpool are interested in signing 19-year-old Dean Huijsen from Juventus.

The teenage defender has long been seen as one of the brightest prospects in Italian football, enjoying a bright loan spell at Roma this season.

In fact, even Jose Mourinho has praised the teenager, stating last season that he thinks he’s one of the highest quality prospects in all of Europe.

“I think that we all know who he is, he is an 18-year-old boy, who has 10 minutes in Serie A, but who is one of the highest quality prospects in European football at this age level. He will be a great footballer in the future,’ Mourinho said.

Huijsen deal won’t be easy

As Mourinho’s past comments show, Huijsen is highly-rated, and that means he won’t be easy to sign.

The defender may not be a first-teamer at Juventus, but he is seen as a bright prospect and with a new manager coming in, next season may be his big chance to break through.

However, when a club like Liverpool comes calling, it’s hard to say no, and Huijsen would surely relish the chance to learn from Virgil van Dijk.

Huijsen is a Spain youth international, but he was born in the Netherlands to Dutch parents, so perhaps the idea of learning from Van Dijk and working under Arne Slot will appeal to the centre-back.

Huijsen would be an exciting young signing if Liverpool were able to get this deal over the line.
