Tottenham Hotspur will now find it difficult to sign £50m midfielder Ange Postecoglou wants

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with new signing but Ange Postecoglou may find that one target is just too difficult to acquire this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has guided Tottenham Hotspur back into European action having secured a fifth-place finish in the Premier League.

The Spurs manager is now looking to bring in new faces this summer with a potentially busy window on the cards.

Midfielders could be a key priority with a number of names potentially leaving the engine room at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Giovani Lo Celso, Tanduy Ndombele, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp all feature on a list up to 15 players who could be sold.

Postecoglou has already admitted that he wants to make big changes this summer as he looks to take Tottenham forward.

Changes in midfield are now expected and Tottenham have targets in mind – but one is pretty difficult to secure this summer.

Chelsea stance on Tottenham Hotspur target Conor Gallagher

One man consistently linked with a move to Tottenham is Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher is out of contract in 2025 and Tottenham had been eyeing him up since last summer.

Fabrizio Romano claims that Gallagher is the player that he definitely knows Tottenham want to sign in the upcoming transfer window.

Reports suggest that Tottenham want Gallagher signed before pre-season starts in a £50million move but a deal now seems fairly tricky.

The Independent claim that Tottenham still fancy signing Gallagher but a deal does ‘not seem as easy to do as it would have been a year ago’.

Spurs couldn’t bring Gallagher to North London last summer, so if such a deal is even more difficult now, it seems that Gallagher won’t be coming in.

Aston Villa are very interested in Gallagher but Chelsea seemingly won’t be keen on the idea of selling him to Tottenham.

Gallagher at the heart of Mauricio Pochettino exit

Another interesting note is that the report makes claims about Mauricio Pochettino’s stunning exit from Chelsea last week.

The former Tottenham boss left Stamford Bridge after less than a year in charge and looks set to be replaced by Leicester City’s Enzo Maresca.

It is now claimed that Gallagher’s future was one of the key reasons behind Pochettino’s exit.

The Chelsea hierarchy want to sell Gallagher to raise funds; as a homegrown player, he would count as pure profit on the books.

Pochettino didn’t want to sell Gallagher though and that stand-off is thought to have contributed to the Argentinian’s exit.

That surely means that Chelsea will want to press ahead with plans to sell Gallagher – just maybe not to Tottenham.

Selling a homegrown player who wore the captain’s armband for stretches of the season isn’t the best look, never mind to rivals Tottenham.

Spurs may need to move on from Gallagher and look elsewhere, with a deal now looking too difficult to pull off this summer.
