Meghan Markle chooses not to be at Prince Harry's side because of her 'popularity'

Meghan Markle has chosen to ‘cut ties’ with the UK as the rift within the royal family continues, a commentator has said.

The 42-year-old has not visited Prince Harry‘s homeland since September 2022, when the duo were traveling across the pond for the WellChild Awards, and the late Queen Elizabeth II passed away. Initially, they extended their trip for the mourning period and funeral to pay their respects to the monarch. But since then, Meghan Markle has stayed put – well most of the time, she has jet-setted across the world, with the likes of Jamaica and Nigeria – and chooses not to come back to Britain, which she called home once.

Surprisingly, the Duchess of Sussex has chosen not to be at her husband’s side to offer support on trips that are in his own interest. The former Suits star didn’t fly over with Harry for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which the Duke founded, and is a cause very close to his heart.

She did attend the games itself in Germany last year, so it appears she has picked and rejected what events to go to, and the pattern that has emerged seems to be if it’s in the UK, it’s off-limits.

The 39-year-old founded the Invictus Games in 2014, when he was a senior royal within The Firm. 10 years later, it has grown incredibly, offering veterans and former service men and women a chance to connect with others and compete in physical and sports games.

No members of the monarchy attended the event last month, at St Paul’s Cathedral, and Meghan’s absence was even louder.

Now, Richard Fitzwilliams, says Meghan chose to stay away over her poor approval rating and the royal drama that still simmers between The Firm and the Sussexes.

He told GB News: “It was not a question of supporting him [Harry], she [Meghan] was not coming here because her ratings in the polls are terrible.

“The Royal Family has this huge rift, so there are all sorts of reasons why she chose to stay away.

“She assumed which turned out to be the case that she would get positive publicity in Nigeria.

“It made total sense not to accompany Harry to St Paul’s Cathedral, it would have been unthinkable a few years ago that this would happen but it has.”

Previously, Meghan has explained her absences, telling fans at the Invictus Games last year she was late as she was sending their children to school.

However, the regular occurrence of striking off the UK may add fuel to the fire when it comes to her popularity.

This is because the duchess did fly to Heathrow Airport – in the UK – but only to meet her husband before they went to Nigeria for a three-day unofficial tour.

Harry returned to the island for the WellChild Awards in 2023, a year after the Queen’s death. The couple had to pull out, understandably, when the monarch died. Although, the following year, the Duke appeared on his lonesome, and did apologize over Meghan’s absence to one loyal fan who was hoping to meet her.

The royal rift has been boiling over for the past four years, ever since the couple decided to step down as senior members representing Buckingham Palace. They’re still the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but had their His/Her Royal Highness titles stripped when they chose to not work for the monarchy.

If Meghan is still upset over the rift, as the commentator claims, she’s hurting her fans too with her absence.
