Report: £45m Man City player could seek to leave the PL ahead of 2024/25, three overseas clubs keen

One Manchester City player is now considering leaving the Premier League for a fresh start after a nightmare 2023/24.

City fans are excited to see what happens this summer, after winning the Premier League for a fourth successive year.

Pep Guardiola is entering his final year as manager, and may be looking to go out with a bang. At the moment, there is a lot of speculation that he could depart when his contract expires in the summer of 2025.

There will be new faces this summer. And there will also be some outgoings.

One man likely to be on his way is Kalvin Phillips, after a disastrous loan spell with West Ham United – and City’s £45 million signing could seek a fresh start away from the Premier League…

Phillips endured a nightmare 2023/24 season.

After failing to get regular minutes at City, he went to West Ham in January in the hope of turning things around.

But Phillips’ lack of confidence was evident, and he just couldn’t get going under David Moyes. He made mistakes leading to goals, got sent off against Nottingham Forest, and finished the campaign injured.

West Ham will not be exercising their option to buy the player – and so, there is a high chance Phillips will be turning out for a new team next term.

And it looks as though Phillips could seek a new chapter away from the Premier League. The Sun reported on Wednesday evening that the 28-year-old is now considering leaving the English top-flight.

Apparently, RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg and AS Roma are all keen on the star, who is open to the idea of moving abroad for a fresh start.

There is no mention about whether these clubs would be able to afford Phillip’s high wages though. But it is not out of the question that Phillips could take a wage cut to bring a move to fruition.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Everton are exploring a potential loan deal for Phillips.

Move abroad for Phillips could be exactly what he needs

It has been an awful past year for Phillips, and so it could be really good for him to make a move to a club overseas.

His stint at West Ham couldn’t have gone much worse, and everything he has done has been heavily scrutinised. He was placed under the microscope after leaving City, because everyone was so fascinated to see how he would get on.

That pressure cannot have been easy to deal with, especially given all his confidence has been sapped.

Phillips would be right to consider making a move abroad for next season. It would be a good chance for him to get back on track, away from the English press.

City probably aren’t going to have any of these clubs making permanent offers for Phillips. So it remains to be seen if they will be willing to accept another loan proposal.
