Report: Club refusing to pay Tottenham's asking price for player who Ange Postecoglou wants to sell

Tottenham Hotspur could now endure some frustration when attempting to sell a player deemed surplus to requirements under Ange Postecoglou this summer.

Spurs’ squad requires a fairly substantial overhaul this summer in order for Postecoglou’s project to make real progress next season.

Tottenham have several players to sell and several to bring in – it’ll be no easy task for Daniel Levy and his team.

In terms of arrivals, a new striker has to be considered a priority, someone to finally replace the goals lost when selling Harry Kane.

Richarlison and Son Heung-min have dovetailed well in Kane’s absence, seemingly enjoying their added responsibility, but neither are natural number nines.

Both have often played their best football on the left, a well-stocked position at the club given Timo Werner has just signed another loan deal.

But Spurs need an Ivan Toney type, someone who simply enjoys putting the ball into the back of the net.

That being said, Tottenham may need to offload players first, and they could be set for a slight issue with Djed Spence.

Genoa unwilling to pay Tottenham’s already discounted price for Djed Spence

Spence is one of a number of players Tottenham are willing to sell this summer as they attempt to build a squad better in Postecoglou’s image.

And having played for Genoa 16 times during his loan, BBC Sport are now reporting that the Italian side want to make the move permanent.

However, there is a hitch, Genoa are not willing to pay the £8.5m option that was included in the loan deal.

Genoa will instead attempt to agree a lower fee with Tottenham, even if Spence has impressed in his minutes.

Either way, it appears that Spurs will be making a considerable loss on Spence, who cost the club £20m when he signed from Middlesbrough back in 2022.

Still only 23-years-old, Tottenham may be loath to sell Spence for such a low fee, but perhaps could settle in order to kick their squad overhaul forwards.

Postecoglou has previously made it clear that he wants a new centre-back this summer, and despite his impressive season at Leeds United on loan, it doesn’t seem as if Joe Rodon will be staying at Spurs either.

And it’s now being reported that Rodon does in fact have interest from several Premier League clubs.
