Arne Slot wants to make ‘exceptional’ Chelsea player his first signing for Liverpool – journalist

Journalist Kieran Gill has stated that Liverpool are keen to add one top Chelsea player to their ranks ahead of next season.

While the Blues are about to begin life under a new manager in the form of Enzo Maresca, their rivals at Anfield are doing the same.

Jurgen Klopp has departed his role at Liverpool, taking a dig at Chelsea’s owners in the process, leaving the Reds stepping into a new era.

It is interesting looking at what both sides are set to do in the upcoming transfer window. It has already been reported that Chelsea are prepared to add as many as five new players to their ranks to give the Italian the best possible chance of success.

It looks as if Liverpool are ready to strengthen too, and are even reportedly looking at Stamford Bridge for potential targets.

Arne Slot wants Levi Colwill

One of those is reportedly Levi Colwill, with Gill stating on Twitter that he suits what Slot wants as far as a defensive signing goes.

He said: “Liverpool like Levi Colwill – Arne Slot is chasing a versatile left-footed defender – but Chelsea want 21-year-old academy graduate to stay this summer. Contracted until 2029 with option of a further year.”

Colwill had a very strong breakout campaign in West London, especially when he began featuring more regularly in his preferred role of centre-back.

Colwill crucial for Chelsea

His ability on the ball is something that has been noted as a real strength up to now, with Jamie Redknapp describing his passing as ‘exceptional’ last season.

He looks as if he is going to be crucial to the future of Chelsea at the back, and it would certainly be a foolish decision to let him leave to a rival at the top of the table.

However, up to now there are no signs that the England international wants to leave the club, and he will be ready and raring to make a good impression on the new manager.
