What does Ange Postecoglou think of Mikey Moore?

The Australian was the man to hand the 16-year-old his debut in the Spurs senior side with Moore seriously impressing Postecoglou during his call-up to senior training.

Moore was supposed to join the Tottenham side in going to Melbourne, Australia for the post-season game against Newcastle United.

However, Postecoglou thought it would be better for Moore to go to the U17s Euros with England to play more competitive football.

And that is a decision which is certainly paying off as he’s netted four goals in his opening three games.

Speaking to The Standard, Davies has now shared how the Spurs academy prospect is viewed by Postecoglou ahead of the new campaign.

“It’s encouraging that the manager sees something in Mikey but it is just potential at the moment,” Davies said.

“I speak to the manager regularly and he’s got a real thirst for youth development. He understands the fans’ and the club’s ambitions to have several – not just one – but several of our own in the first team.

“But it’s my job to make sure those players are at the level of Ange. It’s not a given. We’re Tottenham, we want to be a Champions League club that’s fighting at the top end. So we have to make sure the players are at the right level.

“It’s not fair to ask a manager at any club to give young players a go when they’re not at the level. I know Ange is ready for young players to go in the first team.”

Mikey Moore needs to patience from Tottenham fans

It is only natural that excitement is building over the 16-year-old talent who is showing a lot of potential both at club and international level.

However, the signing of Timo Werner on another loan deal for next season has been met with mixed responses with some fans feeling it could derail Moore’s development.

The reality is, it is probably the opposite as Moore’s path into the Spurs XI is being blocked by this season’s top goalscorer in Heung-min Son who occupies the left wing.

Moore has mainly played at U18 level this season, so not catapulting him straight into the first team may allow him to take the step up to U21 football.

And that is something which Davies alluded to, he added: “It’s exciting for the academy to have a player so young on the bench. But we have to stay calm and consistent. Because at the moment, it is just [potential].
