Thomas Frank loves 'quality' Sheffield Wednesday target, he'd be the ideal replacement for one player - opinion

Brentford manager Thomas Frank is a huge fan of this emerging Sheffield Wednesday transfer target.

Sheffield Wednesday are quickly putting together their plans for the summer transfer window, after securing the future of manager Danny Rohl.

He pens a new three-year deal at Hillsborough after guiding the Owls to a miraculous 20th place finish in the 2023/24 Championship campaign.

Names such as Duncan McGuire and Mika Biereth have been re-linked with Sheffield Wednesday after the club tried and failed to sign the striker duo in January.

Elsewhere, Wednesday look set to scour the free market once again, with former Reading and Liverpool man Ovie Ejaria a new name being linked.

And there’s another name now on the Owls’ radar; Charlie Goode, who is set to leave Brentford as a free agent next month.

Thomas Frank hails Charlie Goode after signing for Brentford

Brentford fended off competition from rival English Football League clubs to sign Goode from Northampton Town in 2020.

Frank told the official club website upon signing Goode: “He has good quality on the ball which we feel we can develop further within our style of play.

“The pathway through the non-league and lower leagues develops you hugely as a person and builds your character in ways that I really like.

“I feel Charlie can add something to the team in that regard, especially given his leadership qualities.

“We are sure that he will grow and develop further with us over the coming years and that, in turn, he will help us go forward as a club too.”

Goode worked his way through the non-league pyramid before getting his break with Scunthorpe United in 2015.

His 2020 move to Brentford wouldn’t work out, though, with the centre-back featuring just 20 times in all competitions, spending time out on loan with the likes of Sheffield United, Blackpool, and Wigan Athletic with varying degrees of success.

Charlie Goode can be ideal replacement for one Sheffield Wednesday player

Frank’s comments are certainly very insightful and it could give Rohl a great indication into what type of player he really is.

And Frank’s comments about Goode being an aerial threat and having good quality on the ball makes him sound a lot like Di’Shon Bernard.

The Jamaican international is out of contract next month. Sheffield Wednesday have offered him a new dela but he has interest from elsewhere and he’ll leave a void in the Owls defence if he moves on.

But Goode could really soften the blow of Bernard potentially leaving; it’s been a stop start few years since he signed for Brentford, with injury playing a big part in that.

Brentford’s recruitment has earned high praise over the past few years, though. They clearly identified Goode for a reason and signed him because they thought he could go on and become a top player.

At 28 years old, he still has plenty of time to fulfil his potential, and playing under Rohl could really help him to get back on track, like it has done with so many others.
