Report: Sheffield Wednesday may need to cough up £5.95m to sign transfer target, his value has doubled in 2024

Sheffield Wednesday may well have been priced out of a summer swoop for this one transfer target.

Sheffield Wednesday appear to be making movements in the transfer market, with several names having come onto their radar in the last few weeks.

Charlie Goode is the latest; the centre-back is set to leave Brentford as a free agent in June, with Bees boss Thomas Frank a huge admirer of his.

Elsewhere, former Liverpool talent Ovie Ejaria is also thought to be on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar; he’s been a free agent since leaving Reading in December 2023.

Other names on Danny Rohl‘s wishlist include Duncan McGuire, Karamoko Dembele, and January loan trio Ian Poveda, James Beadle, and Ike Ugbo.

Elsewhere, the Owls are thought to be back in the market for Mika Biereth; the Arsenal talent was wanted by Sheffield Wednesday in January, but he went on to help Sturm Graz lift the Austrian Bundesliga title instead.

Mika Biereth transfer value at Arsenal revealed

An emerging report from Austria has discussed Biereth’s current transfer value after his impressive loan stint with Sturm Graz.

Liga Portal claims that Biereth, who scored five and assisted two more in 15 league appearances for Sturm Graz, has doubled his transfer value since January.

Their report says that Biereth is now valued at €7mmillion (£5.95million) ahead of the summer, though Arsenal are reportedly set to take him on their pre-season tour of the US.

In 2023/24, Biereth scored a total of 11 league goals and claimed seven assists, having spent the first half of the campaign on loan with Motherwell.

Can Sheffield Wednesday realistically sign Mika Biereth

If Sheffield Wednesday were to sign Biereth, it would make him their second most-expensive signing of all time, behind only Jordan Rhodes.

And although there’s suggestions that Dejphon Chansiri will spend money on the right player this summer, spending almost £6million on one seems unlikely.

Although he’s a player with potential and someone Sheffield Wednesday have clearly done their research on, £6million could realistically be used to bring in a few quality players.

So if this emerging claim is to be believed, it may put a harsh end to any Wednesday chances of signing Biereth this summer; unless it’s a loan deal.

That might depend on whether or not Sturm Graz pursue a permanent deal. If not then it could leave the door open for another loan exit.

A loan move for Biereth might make more sense for the Owls, and playing in England’s second tier could be great development for Biereth as a player as it’s a much more physical league, and one still brimming with quality.
