Rangers at advanced stage in £3.5m deal for one of club's 'best players'

Rangers have quickly put the disappointment of the season behind them and are making an immediate splash in the transfer market despite the window not even being open yet.

Nils Koppen may have pulled out of a deal for Jose Cordoba, but there are more than enough quality players who want to play for the club without having to entertain or persuade those who aren’t 100% committed.

The forward line in particular needs a lot of attention and it was no surprise to see Rangers linked with Adama Traore and at an advanced stage to sign him, a player with a track record of scoring goals and a former player with the club has been singing his praises.

Rangers given numbers lowdown on Adama Traore

Speaking to The Rangers Review’s Derek Clark, former Ferencvaros player Akos Fuzi, has given the lowdown on the winger’s recent form and it makes for encouraging reading:

“Last year he had a very good year.

“He played, I think, about 73 games and scored 32 goals.

“He played well in the championship and on the international games as well.

“This year it was a little bit not so good as the last year because he had an injury.

“But, when he played, he scored many goals and he had assists as well.

“If I remember good, he scored about 14 goals altogether this year and, yeah, he’s a right forward, right winger, and I think he’s one of the best players of Ferencvaros at the moment.”

Everything Rangers need; goals, assists and a left-footed forward who plays predominantly off the right wing.

Doubts about Traore’s injury history?

There have been question marks about Traore’s injury record, however, over the last three seasons, it is only the season that has just finished where he had any issues.

With 14 goals and five assists in 27 appearances, he still made a key contribution for the Hugarian outfit.

The season before he played 46 times, scoring 18 goals and creating 11 assists and in 2021/22 he scored 15 goals with nine asissts including a goal against Inter Milan and an assist in a shock victory over Real Madrid with FC Sheriff.

After selling Fashion Sakala, Rangers don’t have a numbers player like Adama Traore who can cause chaos with his pace and of creating chances for others.

He isn’t injury prone either.

Look at Danilo. He missed most of the season but both injuries were freak accidents that he could do little about, it doesn’t mean that he is lightweight or prone to missing games.

Forwards with these numbers are rarely cheap and, for a reported £3.5m, Rangers could be getting a bargain.

He’s got the statistics and big game evidence to prove it.
