Recounting the horrific incident in an interview with ET, Joy explained that she and the celebrity were walking back to their cars alongside two other employees early on Saturday morning, having clocked off for the night from the nearby club, Level 8.

She said the staff are very close and know the ‘risk’ of the job, so nobody ‘walks out alone’

Joy and Wactor proceeded to approach their cars, which happened to be parked next to each other, when the pair came across three men – prompting the TV actor to place his hand on Joy’s back protectively.

At first, they believed his vehicle was being towed. But they were wrong.

Wactor asked the three men what was going on. Joy explained: “He stepped forward – not confronting the guy, not having fists, he had his hands up to his sides, open palms – and he’s like, ‘Hey, man’.

“I was like looking down for a second and I hear a crack and the guy just shot him. They all jumped into the car and they took off. It was just instantaneous.”

Describing what sounds like a particular mindless act of violence, Joy concluded, bleakly: “The guy easily could of just jumped back into the car and sped off or shoved Johnny or something, but they just shot him close contact.”

She said his final words were: “Nope, shot”, when she had asked him if he was okay. A security guard from their club ran over and called 911, and tried to perform CPR on the TV star. Sadly, he passed away.

Joy pays emotional tribute on Instagram

Taking to Instagram to pay her respects to her late friend, Joy shared just how important a figure he was in her life.

“Johnny had this incredible ability that was truly just his genuine nature – to make anyone and everyone feel so special in his eyes”, wrote Joy. “No matter how well you knew him, he treated everyone like he truly cared about you.”

In what made for a truly heartfelt statement, Joy went on to say: “Just one look into his big blue eyes, followed by a big goofy grin, Johnny made you love him instantly.

“Absolutely one of the best men I’ve ever known. I’m so grateful to have been a part of his world and him, mine.”

Joy has demanded that Level 8 provide a safe parking area for its staff, in order to prevent such tragedies in the future.

Reacting to her emotional tribute, actress Kelly Thiebaud wrote: “Johnny and I worked together and although we never hung out outside of work, he always made me feel so happy and good when I was around him.

Actor and producer Parry Shen concurred, adding: “I’m so sorry you both had to go through this and are forever connected in this way. But at the same time glad he was with a friend during his final moments.”

At the time of writing on May 31, Wactor’s killer is believed to still be at large and no arrests have been made in relation to his death.
