'Don't': Tony Cascarino warns Arne Slot there's one thing he can't do after taking over Liverpool

Arne Slot might be the new manager at Liverpool but Tony Cascarino has fired a warning to the Dutchman over his first signings.

Slot is expected to be given the backing of the Liverpool board this summer and wants to bring in a number of players to improve the squad.

The Reds will, of course, have a list of targets already drawn up and with Michael Edwards and Richard Hughes running the ship, it won’t simply be down to Slot to decide who he signs.

And speaking of making new signings, former Everton striker Tony Cascarino has wanted Slot against doing one thing.

Arne Slot told not to go back home for first Liverpool signings

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Cascarino warned the new Liverpool manager against going for players from the Dutch league immediately.

“Don’t buy Eredivisie players straightaway. Don’t go back to your former club,” Cascarino said.

“It might be one that might come, but I don’t think that Eredivisie and the Premier League are the same sort of thing. They are not. It’s a lower standard.”

Hit and miss in recent seasons for Eredivisie stars

The biggest ‘flop’ really to come from the Dutch league over to England in recent times is Manchester United winger, Antony.

The Brazilian has had a nightmare since they spent more than £85m on him and he could even be set to leave this summer.

Likewise, players like Steven Bergwijn, Davy Klaasen, and Siem de Jong are all examples of players who haven’t done too well in England.

However, certain other players to come from Holland have excelled, like his teammate, Lisandro Martinez.

Going back further, the likes of Ruud van Nistelrooy, Jaap Stam and Robin van Persie have all succeeded in the Premier League, along with a few others.

Slot, then, will need to pick carefully and hope that anyone he does sign from Holland is an immediate hit.
