Transfer talks now underway with European club over ‘fantastic’ Tottenham player, he’s their main target

Tottenham Hotspur have now held meetings over the potential sale of one of their players this summer.

Changes will be made at Tottenham this summer with Ange Postecoglou having had a full season to assess the players he inherited this time last year.

Several players have already departed north London with the likes of Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris considered players not in the Australian’s plans.

More players are set to follow suit with Postecoglou already making it apparent players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have not impressed him so far.

A list of 15 players is believed to have been compiled at Tottenham as potential sales this summer with a squad overhaul on the cards.

And it seems there is one player who is the top priority for one European side this summer with talks having already begun over a potential deal.

Tottenham player top of the list for Spanish side this summer

With a full campaign under his belt, Postecoglou will now be fully aware of the players who he no longer feels are needed at the club.

Several players were not sent out on loan this season, but have found themselves surplus to requirements at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The likes of Bryan Gil and Hojbjerg are expected to move on over the coming weeks with neither earning the game time that they require under the 58-year-old.

Another player who can be added to that list is Giovani Lo Celso who has struggled to work his way into Postecoglou’s thinking this season.

According to El Mira, Real Betis have now placed Lo Celso at the top of their wishlist this summer as they seek a reunion with their former Argentine midfielder.

The report claims all parties have now held ‘official meetings’ about the possibility of a return back to Spain for the 28-year-old this summer.

After a difficult campaign in the Premier League with Spurs where game time has been at a premium, it is believed Lo Celso would welcome a return to Betis.

Ange Postecoglou should have played Giovani Lo Celso more often

Having returned from his ankle injury in January, James Maddison took until the final few games of the season to return to somewhat near his best form.

It is only natural that Maddison took some time to rediscover his best form at Spurs with the injury clearly taking a lot out of him having missed months of football.

However, this should have been the opportunity for Postecoglou to recognise Lo Celso could have offered a good alternative to Maddison.

After all, Postecoglou did hail Lo Celso “fantastic” earlier in the campaign after he filled in for the England international.

During Maddison’s absence, the Argentine stepped up and provided two goals and two assists across November and December.

If Lo Celso is to move on, whoever potentially replaces him this summer will be hoping for more opportunities than what was handed to the 28-year-old this season.
