Green Party candidates and activists from across the East of England gathered in a town yesterday to launch the party’s General Election campaign for the region.
The election hopefuls gathered in Diss, led by party leader Adrian Ramsay, who himself will fight in the newly created Waveney Valley seat.
The Greens have had success in the area in recent years, taking full control of Mid Suffolk District Council and leading East Suffolk Council in conjunction with the Liberal Democrats.
The party is putting forward a full slate of 60 candidates across Suffolk, Norfolk, Essex, Bedfordshire and Cambridge.
Mr Ramsay said: “This election we aim to make history in the East, with our first ever Green MP in East Anglia, a massive breakthrough in this traditional Conservative heartland.
“We have never in our history been this prepared for a General Election. I and other Green candidates want to bring back NHS dental treatment, build social housing that people can afford, clean up our rivers, invest in sustainable flood prevention, make life better for people and restore a sense of civic pride.”
Mr Ramsay added the party is aiming for ‘record results’ in the East.
Also standing for election in Waveney Valley are Richard Rout (Conservative), Gurpreet Padda (Labour), Scott Huggins (Reform) and Maya Severyn (Social Democratic Party).
