The Republican Party will nominate Donald Trump as its presidential candidate regardless of the verdict the judge will hand down in the criminal case of money concealment, states the Co-chair of the Republican National Committee Lara Trump.
As Lara Trump said, the Republicans should be prepared for anything, including a possible court decision to restrict Trump's freedom.
“We have to make plans as this develops, and we will have multiple contingency plans. The truth is, it doesn't really matter, we're going to nominate Donald Trump as our Republican nominee, and that's what ultimately matters,” she said on CNN.
Verdict for Trump
This week, a New York court jury found former US President Donald Trump guilty in a criminal case involving the hush money Trump paid porn actress Stormy Daniels through his lawyer to keep quiet about their affair.
In this case, Trump was charged with 34 counts. And he was found guilty of all of them. Now the judge has to choose the punishment for Trump. This will happen on July 11.
Theoretically, Trump could face from 4 to 136 years behind bars, but most forecasts suggest that he is unlikely to be sent to prison. The judge may limit him to house arrest or probation.
However, even if Trump is sent to prison, he will still be able to run for president and win the office if he wins the election. This would be the first such case in US history.
