Report: Enzo Maresca really wants Chelsea to sign a player who was just relegated from the Premier League

Reports have claimed that incoming Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has one of his top transfer targets firmly in mind.

It is widely expected that today is the day that the Blues announce the Leicester City man as their new boss, after what has ended up being quite a swift search for a replacement for Mauricio Pochettino.

When he is announced officially, all eyes will then turn to transfer business and who the new man in charge is interested in bringing in.

Of course, the final say is not likely to fall to Maresca, with transfers very much in the hands of those who work above him.

Maresca wants James McAtee

However, it has been claimed by The Sun on Sunday (Page 61 2/6/24) that the Italian is keen to add James McAtee to his ranks ahead of the new season.

Currently with Manchester City, the youngster spent last season on loan at Sheffield United, where his performances were unable to help his loan side remain in the Premier League.

Despite featuring in 30 games, he was only able to score three goals and set up as many. Even though he is only 21, there is likely not too much at this stage he can contribute at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson in form

Chelsea’s striker role was predominantly filled by Nicolas Jackson last season, who ended on a very impressive tally in his first campaign in England.

With reports stating that the Blues are shying away from a move for Victor Osimhen right now, it can be believed that some have been convinced Jackson could well be the answer to their issues up top.

However, taking risk on young Manchester City players will always be an avenue worth exploring after the successes that followed Cole Palmer’s move to London last summer.

There are also the positives of Maresca previously working at the Etihad, and likely having a better knowledge of these players than most.
