Report: Chelsea have three players they trust to be the 'heartbeat' of their team under Enzo Maresca

Chelsea reportedly trust three players to be the ‘heartbeat’ of their team under incoming boss Enzo Maresca.

The Blues are set to officially announce Enzo Maresca as their new manager on Monday after agreeing a £10 million fee with Leicester City.

There will be plenty of work to do over the summer for the Italian boss, with Chelsea needing to raise funds.

It’s no secret that Chelsea will have to offload players to stay on the right side of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

This could lead to the likes of Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah heading out the door, with both players heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge.

But according to GiveMeSport, three current stars certainly won’t be on the move as they are set for a key role under Maresca.

Enzo Fernandes, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia ‘trusted’ by Chelsea

GMS reports that while Gallagher is expected to leave, Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are set for key roles at Chelsea in the future.

Indeed, the midfield trio are viewed as the ‘future heartbeat’ of Maresca’s side.

As for Gallagher, it’s noted he was optimistic about signing a new deal towards the end of last season. But following Pochettino’s departure, his future remains up in the air.

Gallagher was Chelsea’s best midfielder last season

Despite the need to raise funds, it would be a puzzling decision if Chelsea allow Gallagher to leave.

The Blues Academy star captained his side frequently last season and registered 16 goal involvements in 50 appearances.

Caicedo showed plenty of promise towards the back end of the campaign after his big-money move from Brighton last summer.

But Fernandez and Lavia endured difficult campaigns, particularly the latter has managed just one appearance in all competitions due to injuries.

As for Fernandez, he missed Chelsea’s best run of the season with a groin injury.

While all three players have undoubted potential, Gallagher outperformed the trio last term and it would be a shame to see their academy product move on.
