Report: After £9m player suggested he is open to Arsenal move, his club have now identified replacement

Feyenoord have now identified an apparent replacement for one of their players – after he suggested he would be open to joining Arsenal.

One major hurdle in any transfer is convincing a club to sell – although this latest update would suggest Feyenoord are already preparing themselves to lose the man allegedly wanted by Mikel Arteta.

So, what is the situation? Let’s take a look…

Feyenoord identify Andrew as replacement for Arsenal target Justin Bijlow

With Aaron Ramsdale expected to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, Arsenal are searching for a new glovesman.

The Athletic believe Feyenoord No.1 Justin Bijlow is an option for the Gunners after his standout efforts under Arne Slot in the Netherlands, and is actually high on the list of potential goalkeeping arrivals.

Interestingly, the Dutchman himself has opened the door to a move to the Emirates Stadium.

After Voetbal Zone specifically asked Bijlow about interest from Arsenal – and also Liverpool – he said: “Those are two very nice clubs. If the opportunity presents itself and a good club comes from abroad, I am open to it. I’ve always said that.”

Now – according to UOL – Feyenoord have made contact with Gil Vicente to sign Brazilian glovesman Andrew, who was the subject of an approach from PSG in 2023.

That would suggest the Eredivisie outfit are preparing to lose Bijlow – who The Athletic believe could be sold if a bid worth more than €10m (£9m) arrives this summer.

Another goalkeeper is well placed for Edu to sign him

While a deal for Bijlow would certainly look on if Feyenoord signed Andrew, another goalkeeper is well positioned for Arsenal to make a move – Wojciech Szczesny.

The Evening Standard believe the Poland international is an attractive option for Arteta and Edu this summer, partly due to the fact he is still classified as a homegrown player after emerging from Hale End.

Szczesny only has 12 months remaining on his contract in Turin, and Juventus have just signed an apparent replacement in Michele Di Gregorio.

Therefore, if Bijlow doesn’t replace Ramsdale at Arsenal, the Polish glovesman certainly could.
