Steve Cooper could now upset Nottingham Forest fans with shock decision - opinion

Steve Cooper could now upset Nottingham Forest supporters by making a shock decision – it could even happen as soon as next week.

The Welshman – a firm fan favourite at the City Ground after guiding Nottingham Forest back into the Premier League against all odds – has been out of work since Evangelos Marinakis sacked him in December.

Now – however – Steve Cooper could be set for an imminent return to the Premier League, although his destination could irk a few Nottingham Forest fans…

Steve Cooper would accept Leicester City job

A story from The Sun now claims that the 44-year-old would accept an offer from Leicester City.

The Foxes – who are Nottingham Forest’s rivals – are on the hunt for a new manager after surprisingly losing Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

Cooper has allegedly rejected the chance to manage Burnley – who just lost Vincent Kompany to Bayern Munich – and is holding out for a Premier League role, with those at the King Power Stadium admirers of his ability.

The Sun believe Leicester City view the man from Pontypridd as someone who can instil an attractive style of play, and also improve those players currently at the King Power Stadium.

Furthermore, The Sun even believe an agreement could be reached as early as next week, with Cooper – who is also admired by Brentford – ready to step back into football management.

Nottingham Forest fans would surely hate to see this

It will be difficult for Cooper to create a strong relationship with Leicester City fans, while also maintaining his legacy amongst Nottingham Forest supporters.

The City Ground faithful will surely feel a little bit ill at the sight of Cooper delivering his trademark fist pumps in front of thousands inside the King Power Stadium after a win, given the fact it became such a special part of their relationship with the Welshman.

There is also the risk that he outdoes Nuno Espirito Santo next season, which would then put pressure on Marinakis and potentially lead people to question why he was sacked in the first place.

Evidently, Cooper joining Leicester City would add a very interesting narrative to Nottingham Forest’s 2024/25 campaign – to say the very least.
