Report: PL giant now 'unlikely' to launch transfer move for £50k-a-week Wolves star this summer

Chelsea are said to be ‘unlikely’ to try and sign one of Wolves’ key players this summer, despite showing interest in the past.

The transfer window has not yet opened, but there have already been several reports linking players away from Molineux.

At the weekend, it was suggested that Manchester United were keen to sign Matheus Cunha. And speculation remains about the future of Pedro Neto.

Someone else there has been a little bit of talk about is Max Kilman, who played every single minute of Wolves’ 2023/24 Premier League campaign. The Molineux captain is thought to be admired by West Ham United, who are now managed by Julen Lopetegui, of course.

But it’s also been suggested that Chelsea have shown interest in the 27-year-old…

Last season Kilman was a key player for Gary O’Neil.

The Englishman had just come in as Lopetegui’s successor and needed a smooth transition.

He was able to get that thanks to Kilman, who had just assumed the captaincy from Ruben Neves who had departed to Saudi Arabia.

Kilman had a shaky start to 2023/24, but was very solid in the middle of Wolves’ campaign. His form dipped towards the end though, which was the case for most of his teammates too.

£50,000-a-week ace Kilman is a player clubs have had an eye on for some time now. Chelsea are one of those clubs, but Give Me Sport claim that the Blues are ‘unlikely’ to make a move for him this summer.

They are after another centre-back after signing Tosin Adarabioyo.

New manager Enzo Maresca likes Ousmane Diomande from Sporting CP and Kilman, but a move for the Wolves star is considered ‘unlikely’.

Wolves should only sell for a huge fee

So Chelsea are unlikely to make a move for Kilman, but it could be that one of the other clubs like Manchester United or West Ham come calling.

Kilman had a decent campaign in 2023/24, but he was arguably better in 2021/22 when he played in the right of a back three under Bruno Lage.

He is a very capable Premier League centre-back and really, Wolves should only cash in for big money. Potentially, the club should seek more than the record £53 million they got from Manchester City for Matheus Nunes.

Ultimately, Kilman is the captain, and has some very desirable traits that a lot of clubs will like. His ball-laying and ability to carry the ball out of defence make him more unique than most, and Wolves must demand a lot if he is to go this summer. And they can, because the player signed a new contract last August.
